Who Calls Me? – REPORTS Find out who called you

I've had two telephone calls in the last few days, the latest today (11th February 2011.) The first was from a woman with an Asian accent who said something to the effect that they had detected problems with my computer but she rang off almost immediately. Then today a man with an Asian accent called and asked for me by name, saying he was calling on behalf of some "computer maintenance department" and that they had detected problems with my computer. I told him that I had never heard of such an organisation and he said that they were acting for Windows and others. I told him I had run a full virus scan the previous day with a clean bill of health, but he said this problem would not have been detected by anti-virus software. He wanted me to open my computer straightaway so that he could tell me what needed to be done. I explained that the phone on which I was speaking was nowhere near the computer and asked him if he could just tell me what needed to be done. He was not prepared to do that as he thought I would probably do something wrong. So I asked him for his number so that I could call back and he gave me the number 01865600786 and told me to ask for him by the unlikely name of Ricky Parker. Having had my suspicions confirmed by a bit of internet surfing, I have no intention of calling this person back. From my web searches, my guess is that this is the work of the West Bengal based Rajesh Baghel and his company RSB Infosolutions based in Kolkata trading variously as Techresolve or Itekassist, or others of the same ilk, and that the aim is to gain remote control of someone's pc in order to steal money or, at best, to sell unsolicited software. That is all I can say at present. It's worth knowing that fraudulent calls of this kind are being made and the characteristics I've described should cause the warning lights to flash.
