February 22nd, 2011I live in Perth, Western Australia and have had 3 calls from this Indian guy tonight (8.30pm!!) telling me that Microsoft had received lots of error reports today from my computer and e-mail address, when I asked him which e-mail address, he couldn't tell me but instead flaffed over this part of the conversation with some technical jargon, I pretended not to notice. He then told me to go to the 'Run' command from 'Start' then type 'inf computer hacking files'. He said this would show me what files were being hacked into! I kept him hanging on the phone whilst I googled this and up came this page. I am currently running a virus check on my pc, so far so good. The guy is ringing back tomorrow as I told him it was too late in the evening to deal with it, so may play along by just keeping him waiting on the phone, may go do some ironing in between!
Yes he does sound VERY convincing, BEWARE!!!

Yes – same thing is happening in New Zealand too. Had about 7-8 calls now and just keep hanging up. Bastards won’t give up though!
They are saying that there is something wrong with my computer and that they are from Microsoft and want to talk me through the solutions to fix. They said I was running xp and I said well actually no I am not. Then he said sorry I meant windows in general. It was so obviously a scam from the get go!
Hope no one falls for this. Getting phone company to do investigation and then hopefully we will be able to block the caller all together.
