I have received several telephone calls from an Asian man asking if my computer was running slow. He described fully how to find the errors log and there were many errors with the name 'Bonjour service'. He told me that what I needed was 'Software maintenance protection'. Finally I got his name, Michael Smith, and his company is called 'Quick Result'. I have since found 'Bonjour service' in my programs and deleted it. I don't know what he wants. Has anyone else been phoned by this man?

Got a call from 01613810003? Report it and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.

  1. I also had a call from an asian lady claiming to be from quick result and wanting me to put various codes etc into my computer after asking me to click on various programmes and exclaiming ‘om my god, oh my god madam your computer is at serious risk’, when i found the ‘yellow warning triangles’ against some of the items in the list she had directed me to. Found this very unprofessional of someone claiming to be working for a company affiliated with Windows. set alarm bells ringing and i googled the phone number which seemed to show that it may be a scam. Better safe than sorry i think, and refused to go ahead and have a techical support engineer connected to my computer to’fix it’. She put me through to her supervisor who was another asian man called John Edwards! He was very very insistent and i ended up having to put the phone down in the end. With so may computer scams going on it pays to err on the side of caution. Somehow this phone call did not ring true

  2. and they keep using english names 2.i had the same called bt and is a scam..

  3. Had a call this morning from 0161 381 0003 from “Eric Woods” (Asian gent) claiming to be from Windows Support, telling me my compueter was running slow and he wanted me to key in some commands. Somehow this did not sound genuine, so I asked for his name and phone number and searched on Google and lo and behold, yet another scam. No doubt a fishing exercise to obtain personal data from my compueter. He was very polite and persistent, but do not fall for this one. Just ignore his calls.

  4. I received a telephone call this morning from an Asian gentleman saying he was from Windows Technical Team telling me that all sorts of things were going round my computer that could damage it if they weren’t fixed. He told me to go to my computer and he would tell me what to do to fix it. I wasn’t happy about this and said I would call him back if he gave me a phone number, which he did. I had no intention of ringing until I had spoken to someone, but had just received the latest Which Computing magazine which contained an article about computer scams. They described a similar thing claiming to be from Microsoft Support, which confirmed that I had done the right thing to finish the call. I then “googled” the telephone number and lo and behold I was not alone in receiving these calls. Can’t be too careful!
